March 5, 2014 – Mayor Mike McGinn has joined the Board of Directors of Social Justice Fund NW to continue working for progressive social change. McGinn says, "I'm excited about Social Justice Fund's innovative process that engages people from all backgrounds as philanthropists and grantmakers.”

Social Justice Fund NW is a member-funded foundation that supports the creation of a just society through fundraising, grantmaking, and member involvement. The foundation provides essential resources to organizations to strengthen grassroots efforts in the broad-based movement for progressive, systemic social change.  This is accomplished through Giving Projects, which engage a diverse group of community volunteers at all income levels in a participatory model of progressive philanthropy.

McGinn’s initial focus will be to invite community members to join the Environmental Justice Giving Project, which focuses on the intersection of environmental sustainability and social justice.   McGinn says, "As a community organizer, I saw first-hand the power of small scale community groups fighting for change, and my years in the Mayor's office only confirmed that community organizing is one of the most effective tactics for improving the lives of all".

Hear more from McGinn and other Social Justice Fund members about how they’ve turned their values into real outcomes for environmental justice on Thursday, March 20 from 5-7pm at a community event hosted by Social Justice Fund NW.
