Gita Mehrotra currently lives in Portland and before that has made home in Minnesota, California, and Washington. She is on faculty at Portland State University, School of Social Work. Prior to entering higher ed, Gita was involved with community-based anti-violence work for over a decade in a variety of capacities including: direct service, education/training, and program and organizational development, with a focus on API and LGBTQ communities. Gita has also been involved with community building within queer and trans communities of color and has provided technical assistance and training to community-based organizations around the country. Her work has been focused on organizational equity work (particularly in regard to race, gender, and sexuality), program development, and community engagement. Gita was part of the 2015 Portland Giving Project and co-facilitator of a Portland-based Gender Justice Learning Group in 2016. She is thrilled to join the board of SJF and to have the opportunity to support movement work in the Northwest in this new way. Gita is also passionate about finding new lipstick shades, eating fancy ice cream, and spending as much time as possible near the ocean.
