Joey comes to SJF by way of North Carolina. Joey has spent many years organizing communities in Chicago, Detroit, and across North Carolina. He most recently worked coordinating a coalition in NC that formed as a direct response to the notorious NC House Bill 2. As a community organizer at Campaign for Southern Equality, Joey helped to coordinate the second LGBT in the South conference convening of over 500 grassroots organizers, attorneys, healthcare providers, educators and other practitioners from across the South. He co-developed the Southern Equality Fund – a micro-funding initiative for Southern groups and organizers providing direct services and advocacy for the full lived equality of LGBT people in the South.
His personal experiences with intersecting identities shaped his commitment to educational, economic, racial, ethnic and queer justice both inside and outside communities of faith.
