Social Justice Fund is excited to announce the awardees of our 2024 Base Building cycle! We are proud to partner with these amazing community organizations and encourage you to learn more about them and support their work directly. 

As a reminder, base building is a community organizing tactic that grows the breadth and depth of people who share a vision for social justice, and who develop and execute the organizing strategies to make that vision a reality in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and/or Wyoming. For this last cycle of Base Building, 11 organizations were awarded multi-year grants of $100,000. Moving a total of $1,100,000 in this cycle! Congratulations to all of the awardees. 

 

Beyond These Walls | OR

Beyond These Walls is a 501(c)(3) organization that works to achieve justice and liberation for LGBTQIA2S+ people incarcerated in the Pacific Northwest and the world through advocacy, service, and organizing.

 

Black Agriculture Leadership Council | WA

The Black Agriculture Leadership Council (BALC) is dedicated to empowering Black farmers and agricultural communities through education, advocacy, and sustainable practices. Central to our mission is the creation of the Black Community Resiliency Network, which brings together community members, leaders, and organizations to build stronger, more prepared communities. Through emergency management training and strategic partnerships with local, state, and national organizations, we ensure that our communities are equipped to face and recover from any challenges.

 

Black Prisoners’ Caucus Community Group | WA

The Black Prisoners Caucus Community Group is dedicated to empowering formerly incarcerated individuals, particularly those from Black and other marginalized communities. We provide education, resources, and support for successful reintegration into society while maintaining a strong connection with and ongoing support to our incarcerated brothers and sisters, especially Black Prisoners Caucus members still within the system.

 

Indigenous Idaho Alliance | ID

At the Indigenous Idaho Alliance, our mission is to actively resist and challenge oppressive socio-political systems. Since our establishment in 2012, we have been dedicated to upholding the sovereignty of all Indigenous people. Our focus lies in education, community care, awareness, and collaboration as essential pillars for Native empowerment. We strive to foster a resilient Indigenous community by providing support and resources that address our unique needs. We aim to create a future where Indigenous voices are amplified, cultural is celebrated, and collective well-being is prioritized. Our philosophy is to center cultural & language rejuvenation to nurture healing in community. The Indigenous Idaho Alliance seeks to embody decolonization, sovereignty, and abolition in our transformative work in the community. 

 

Indigenous Just Transition | WA

Our Mission: Honoring the Past, Empowering the Future. The Indigenous Just Transition envisions a world where Indigenous communities lead the way in building sustainable futures rooted in ancestral knowledge, environmental stewardship, and community care. By centering Indigenous sovereignty, we aim to create equitable systems that support the well-being of both people and the planet.

Our Vision: We believe that a just transition for Indigenous communities means restoring humanities balance to our relationship with the land, water, and all living beings. This requires dismantling harmful colonial systems that have disproportionately impacted Indigenous peoples and creating pathways for economic, environmental, and social resilience. Through our efforts, we strive to protect sacred ecosystems, uplift Indigenous economies, and promote climate justice for future generations.

 

Latinos Unidos Siempre | OR

We are young people who come from historically marginalized communities. Together we work for the educational, cultural and political development of youth. We, as youth, empower each other to decolonize leadership roles in the community and make leadership accessible to directly impacted youth. Leadership development supports our work to combat racism and all other forms of institutional and systemic oppression and discrimination through grassroots organizing. 

 

Look 2 Justice | WA

Look2Justice (L2J) is a 501(c)(3) that provides peer-led civic education to currently & formerly incarcerated people, and their loved ones. We work to empower directly impacted people with the skills and knowledge to navigate legislative and policy change so that they may advocate on their own behalf and are not dependent upon the charity of organizations run by people with no lived experience. Through community organizing, research, and civic education we also advocate for evidence-based policies that recognize the harm inflicted on marginalized communities by outdated criminal legal policies. 

 

New Progressive Network, DBA Next Up Action Fund  | OR

Led by youth, for youth, Next Up Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit engaging the next generation of young leaders to build political power for a more just and equitable Oregon. We work towards social, racial, gender, and economic justice by scaffolding youth to build power, centering Black, Indigenous, youth of color and youth at the intersections. Our work creates lasting systemic change through organizing, advocacy, and civic engagement. We are dedicated to young people harnessing their power to dismantle oppressive systems and institutions so that our communities can thrive.

 

TANTA, Inc | ID 

To promote the wellbeing, safety and self-sufficiency of women and girls in resettled and immigrant communities through a culturally responsive approach. TANTA has nurtured meaningful partnerships with resettled and immigrant communities to foster a safe network where well women nurture thriving families, and foster resilient communities. Partnering with Ethnic Based Community Organizations and women leaders from Idaho’s resettled and immigrant communities, TANTA co-creates strategies towards collective thriving for all communities impacted by violence and oppression. 

 

Voz Workers’ Rights Education Project | OR

Voz is a worker-led organization that empowers diverse day laborers, including domestic workers, and immigrants to improve their working conditions and protect civil rights through leadership development, organizing, education, and economic opportunity.

We envision a world where all work is dignified and just. Where workers have the power, tools, and self-determination to improve their lives and communities. The grant will support the expansion of Voz’s leadership school from one cohort to two annually. Participants of each cohort will be in a six-week program, attending weekly sessions to develop leadership skills and position them to play key roles. Our leadership school will focus on four pillars: transformative leadership, advocacy and campaigns, coalition building, and knowing your rights. 

 

Whatcom Peace & Justice Center | WA 

The Whatcom Peace & Justice Center promotes lasting peace, social justice, and a culture of nonviolence at home and worldwide. We accomplish this through partnerships, education, and direct action. WPJC cultivates a broad and committed network across Whatcom County, Washington, empowering communities to embrace the vision and actively develop and implement organizing strategies to bring it to life. Our programs – Alternatives to Military Service (AMS), Transformative Justice Learning Labs (TJLL) and Coalition to Transform Safety – empower self-determination, safety and healing.
