SJF 2024 Winter Pause
Over the past few years, SJF has taken a few weeks at the end of the year to shut down our operations to ensure our staff have time with loved ones, to fill their cups, and to prepare for the year ahead. This year the Social Justice Fund will be on Winter Pause December 16th 2024 – January 6th 2025. You can read more about how we started this practice here.
We know it’s critical to prioritize wellness and rest across our sector to ensure we’re prepared for the fight against white supremacy, fascism, and climate disaster that will only be heightened by the new Trump administration in 2025. With that in mind, our staff wanted to share political learning resources that we hope will be touch points for you during this break. Take time for rest, for communal care, and also know that the work of social justice never sleeps.
What are SJF’s 2024 Political Learning Recommendations?
- Amy, Finance & Data Manager, recommends “I Saw The TV Glow” a 2024 American coming-of-age psychological horror drama film written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun. Available on HBO Max. She also recommends “Frybread Face & Me”, a coming of age story written and directed by Native filmmaker, Billy Luther. Available on Netflix.
- Emily, Program Manager, recommends “Seattle from the Margins: Exclusion, Erasure, and the Making of a Pacific Coast City” by Megan Asaka. Available at most bookstores, Libby app, and your local library.
- Aisha, Development Director, recommends two articles, “Grassroots Organizing Wisdom Will Be Crucial With a Fascist in the White House, and “For Philanthropy, This Actually Isn’t 2016 All Over Again”
We hope you have a rejuvenating and healing end of year with your loved ones, and that you continue to deepen your understanding and praxis of Black liberation, Indigenous sovereignty and decolonization, gender justice and trans liberation, and other critical areas of social justice organizing. We look forward to continuing to resource movements, organize donors, dream and scheme liberation with you in 2025.
