The Rapid Response Grant screening committee awarded a grant of $2,000 to OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon (Portland, OR).

OPAL's mission is to "build power for environmental justice and Civil Rights in our communities: the places where we live, work, learn, play and pray. We advocate for a just transportation system, inclusive housing and investment without displacement, health equity, and empowered, engaged communities who enjoy equal access to opportunity. In 2017 and beyond, we lead an intersectional movement for a Just Transition of our economy, led by the people most-impacted by environmental and climate injustice."

OPAL's Rapid Response Grant
In 2017, OPAL has convened the Oregon Just Transition Alliance, a statewide network of impacted people working to envision a Just Transition as we create the pathway from an extractive, exploitative economy to a regenerative, ecologically-sound one. The first major action of the Oregon Just Transition Alliance is the Portland People's Climate Movement on April 29. For the first time, Portland's PCM is being led and organized by OJTA's front line communities. This request will support the event's success by supplying necessary advertising and publicity materials for the march.
