Support the Economic Justice Giving Project in Portland!
Who is the 2017 Economic Justice Giving Project?
We are a group of 13 Portlanders who are putting our heads and our hearts together to move resources toward achieving economic justice in the greater Northwest. We are environmental advocates, animal rights activists, community organizers, farmers, social workers, technophiles – and now, donor organizers. We celebrate our differences and our shared goals, and we are excited to be working together toward collective liberation.
What are we doing?
Through an entirely democratic process, we are doing three things: giving money, raising money, and granting money. This means that we have each made a meaningful gift to the project, are fundraising among our communities, and then as a group, will give as many $20,000 grants to grassroots community organizations groups as possible. With a goal to raise at least $125,000 in six months, we will fund economic justice projects across our region in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, & Wyoming.

Why Economic Justice?
The racial wealth divide in this country is deepening – middle-income white households now own eight times more wealth than black households and 10 times more than Latino households (source). As such, we believe it is critical to support work that addresses the root causes of structural and economic inequities experienced by low-income communities. We also believe that economic justice cannot be achieved without racial justice, and vice versa.
With your help, this project will support economic justice work in the Northwest by funding organizations that are:
- Addressing the root causes of economic injustice, not just the symptoms
- Led by the people most directly affected by the outcomes of our inequitable systems
- Bringing people together to build collective power and create systemic change
